Woven, metal or wood: choosing a tree collar

By West Lancashire Creations · Updated 25 October 2026

Woven texture

Woven collars bring texture to a simple scheme and pair naturally with paper and wooden decorations. Materials vary: a wicker-style finish is not necessarily natural wicker. Look at the product specification, the internal dimensions and whether the panels separate for storage.

Metal finish

Metal collars can create a crisp outline in traditional or contemporary rooms. Consider the colour and reflectivity in your own lighting rather than relying on a bright studio photograph. Inspect the assembly instructions and handle edges carefully when putting sections together.

Wooden panels

Wooden surrounds can complement a handmade decorating scheme. Check whether the listing describes solid wood, veneer, fibreboard or another material. The construction affects appearance and care. Decorative panels are not a replacement for a correctly specified supporting stand.

Choose the practical details first

Across all materials, fit and access come before colour. Confirm the narrowest internal space, height and assembly method. Keep a real tree’s watering point reachable and follow material-specific care instructions. Our shop makes wooden decorations; the collars featured here are supplied by the named retailers.
